“Richest nature’s bounty delight in Thekkady” 

Settled in the hills of the Western Ghats in the state of Kerala, India, Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is fringed with plenty of lakes, marshy areas, and tall grasslands. Being one of the richest habitats of large mammals, it provides a nourishing form of succulent shoots and grasses. Sprawling over the area of about 257 sq miles, the forest area of Periyar covers the river Pamba and Periyar flows through it. Wildlife at Periyar:

Elephant, wild pig, sambhar, gaur, Malabar flying squirrel, stripe-necked mongoose, tiger barking deer, Indian wild dog. The major four species of primates - the rare lion-tailed macaque, Nilgiri langur, common langur, Gee’s Golden langur. Overall there are 49 species of mammals, 246 birds, 28 reptiles, 8 amphibians, 22 fishes, and 112 butterflies.
